| Associated scholarship(s): | 19/18611-2 - Identity and gender in Brazilian and American translations of La Casa de los Espíritus, by Isabel Allende, BE.EP.DD |
Abstract This ongoing project started as a Master's degree investigation and evolved into a PhD research. We compared three books, one original, La Casa de los Espíritus, by Chilean author Isabel Allende, and both the Brazilian and English translations. This book is one of the most important novels of the Latin American Post-Boom, a literary movement that - among other characteristics - gave voice to social minorities, especially women. For this project, we have two main objectives: to analyze the corpus considering the Feminist Translation Studies, and to propose a new translation of problematic passages into Portuguese. This new translation will be women-oriented. We intend to contribute to the incipient field of Feminist Translation Studies in Brazil and to broaden the knowledge about this theme. We also intend to discuss "falotranslations", that is, translated texts that silence female voices and perpetuate patriarchal values. | |
