Abstract

Resistance Training (RT) is recommended for hypertensive subjects. Dynamic Resistance Training (DRT) is accepted as complementary to aerobic exercise due their musculoskeletal benefits and Isometric Resistance Training (IRT) with handgrip (IRT_h) has been shown effective to reduce Blood Pressure (BP) in hypertensive subjects. Thus, the combination of DRT and IRT_h could bring complementary effects (reduction of blood pressure and musculoskeletal improvement). In addition, is incipient the knowledge about the effect of the combined resistance training (DRT + IRT_h = CRT) on Ambulatory Blood Pressure (ABP) and blood pressure during resistance exercise. This responses is relevant due greater relationship between ABP and cardiovascular events than casual measurement of blood pressure; additionally, the increase of blood pressure during resistance exercise is considered as one of those main trigger for acute cardiovascular events. Therefore, the aim of this study is evaluate and compare the effects of DRT, IRT_h and CRT on ABP and the rise of blood pressure during resistance exercise in hypertensive men. Medicated middle-age hypertensive men will be allocated randomly in groups: DRT (8 exercises, 3 sets, until moderate fatigue at 50-60% of 1 repetition maximum, IRT_h (4 sets, 2 min isometric contraction at 30% maximal voluntary contraction), CRT (DRT+IRT_h) and CON (control - 30 min of stretching). Before and after 10 weeks of training, ABP and the photoplethysmography blood pressure during dynamic and isometric resistance exercise will be evaluated. The data will be analysed by mixed ANOVA, Newnab-Keus's "post-hoc" and P>0.05. (AU)
