Abstract

In the globalized world, the issue of mental health has become increasingly analyzed in different contexts. One of these contexts is the university, in which the different necessities of adaptation of such environment can bring complications to the quality of life of individuals. Admission to a higher education course can be perceived as something positive, but it can also have as consequences several factors that can lead to the diseases of the mind, for example the increase of symptoms of anxiety and even the dropout of higher education. A construct that began to be investigated with the student audience was burnout, characterized by emotional exhaustion (the individual is often tired, lacking the energies to perform and complete routine task related to the study), by depersonalization (affective distancing with the other colleagues from room and teachers) and the low achievement (dissatisfaction with their performance as a student, as well as with the course). Considering that the investigation of health indicators is important for the welfare of this public, the present research will seek to measure levels of anxiety, burnout and reasons for university dropout in first year students of a Psychology course of one a public university located in the interior of the state of São Paulo. The research project will have the data collected in a sample of 70 university students. A sociodemographic questionnaire was used to collect the data, together with the Beck Anxiety Scale - BAI, the Brazilian Burnout Scale (Adjectives Version) - EBB-Adj and the Scale of Evasion Factors of Higher Education - M-ES. It is hoped that through this study it will be possible to reflect on the factors that can lead students to university avoidance, as well as to verify possible strategies that may help the students with adaptation and well-being in the university context.
