Abstract

Controlling the growth of Obesity rates and promoting healthy eating habits are the major challenges in the public health sector in Brazil and around the globe. There are still debates about the role of diet composition even though the relation between Obesity and food consumption is unquestionable. Considering that foods are not consumed isolated, studies in the field of nutritional epidemiology are pointing to the necessity of analyzing diet in a holistic way. The dietary pattern analysis arise as a supplement to the traditional methods of food consumption analysis contributing with a more comprehensive view of the relation between diet composition and body weight. The aim of this project is to investigate the association between dietary patterns and anthropometric profile changes. It will be used data from the Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brazil), a multicenter study conducted in six Brazilian capitals with individuals aged 35 to 74 years. Food consumption data were obtained through a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and will be assessed applying three dietary patterns analysis methods. Anthropometric data (body mass index and waist circumference) will be analyzed throughout the years of this study. To verify the association between dietary patterns and anthropometric profile changes it will be applied logistic regression models fitting longitudinal data characteristics, adjusted for possible confounding factors described in the literature.
