Abstract

This doctoral thesis will investigate the possible invisibilities and potentialities around the railway complexes of Araraquara, Catanduva and Bueno de Andrada, which have reframed stations and belong to the old Araraquara Railway (EFA). From the comparative analysis of the three complexes, based on data collected in loco and documentary sources, the guidelines and the scope of intervention actions in these areas, their correlations with urban profiles, as well as their associations (or not) with them, will be critically evaluated. international documents that guide interventions in goods of this type. Guidelines for projects in these spaces will be discussed and instruments that may have repercussions on more informed public policies will be discussed and clarify whether there is a possible arbitrariness and/or misunderstanding, as well as a gap between practice and theory, when proposing the resignification of this heritage. Which may result in the removal of these sites from the cultural sphere in favor of other interests that may make the reactivation and conversion of these signs of urban memory into qualifiers of the city environment unfeasible. This is a disputed territory and valued enough to indicate the need (or the obligation) to discuss the socio-cultural function and the preservation of these old EFA railway complexes - examples of so many others settled in the interior of São Paulo - from a comprehensive, conscious and judicious.
