Abstract

This project aims to accomplish a commented translation of Raymond Williams' book Communications, first published in 1962 by Penguin, and which has no translation to current Portuguese, thus adding to the national debate regarding the author. Born in Wales in a working class family, Raymond Williams (1921 - 1988) was a scholar, writer, literary critic, teacher, as well as an important intellectual of the twentieth century. His works spread over a wide range of subjects, from essays on politics and sociology, through studies in drama and the theory of communication, where there's an emphasis on education. And although different selective traditions of intellectuals focused on Raymond Williams, inside and outside of the United Kingdom, and in Brazil as well, and as products of this work, a series of translations of his works have been disseminated, the debate regarding his theory of communication and the publicization of his works in this field lack the reflection on the debate of education and society.
