Abstract

Hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) has been associated with obesity, oxidative stress and kidney disease. Mate tea (CM) is a thermogenic antioxidant that helps control obesity and oxidative stress. However, a coffee does not have potentially high CM as blood tests for homocysteine, an oxidant that is associated with oxidative stress and kidney disease. A blind randomized study will be conducted to investigate the hypothesis that decaffeinated CM maintains the benefits of CM in nature, without controlling for oxidative stress from obesity, with the advantage of not contributing to HHcy. Additionally, we hope to experimentally confirm the association between HHcy and kidney disease in obese rats with cola-based soda. For example, 60 adult Wistar rats are randomly fed for 120 days and without cola based, with and without fresh or decaffeinated CM treatment. The control group will be evaluated with the maximum body constitution (Lee weight and index), plasma metabolic profile (total protein, cholesterol, leptin, triglycerides, total calcium and phosphorus), degree of systemic oxidative stress (plasma homocysteine concentration, total antioxidant capacity, total oxidant concentration, plasma lipid peroxidation, albumin, bilirubin and uric acid) and renal function (urinalysis, ADHD, UPC and microalbuminuria). We hope to confirm the phytotherapic potential of decaffeinated CM, to allow its consumption in coffee and hypertensive people and animals, with the advantage of avoiding the deleterious effects of HHcy.
