Abstract

This research project aims to develop strategies for energy management in microgrids taking into account the load-to-voltage dependence of thermostatically controlled loads (TCL). To that end, it is proposed to study and adopt load models that accurately capture the thermal and electric characteristics of TCL, as well the dynamics of the closed-control loops that govern their operation. For voltage regulation, it will be investigated the participation of distributed energy resources (DER) and electric springs installed in series with the TCL. In addition, it is proposed the application of methods for the coordination of multiple DER and TCL that ensure the optimized operation of the microgrid and the quality of service of individual appliances. The primary objective of the proposed strategies is to correlate demand and generation in microgrids with renewable distributed generation. The expected benefits of the implementations will be assessed based on their contribution to improving the safe, reliable and economic operation of the system.
