Abstract

This project aims to identify, map object and analyze how Reductions Jesuit interventions of the states of Paraná and São Paulo, in order to identify as main of the Jesuits in the material culture and in the pattern of Guarani settlement, having as the Archaeological Sites Alvim, Castelinho and Taquaruçu In this project, we will focus on the Guarani indigenous group, the Tupiguarani Tradition. Before the Portuguese invasion, the Guarani lived in the states of Santa Catarina, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo. From the Treaty of Tordesillas, in 1494, which aimed to divide the "world" along an imaginary line between the two greatest powers of the 16th century - Portugal and Spain - the Jesuit Reductions were established in search of the "spiritual salvation" of the indigenous peoples and the demarcation of the Spanish border territory, in order to prevent the expansion of the Portuguese over the Rio do Prata region. Thus, a new organization of space affected the Guarani way of life, changing the social structure of the villages, the division of labor and even the material culture of the Guarani Indians. In view of the above, let us analyze the Alvim Archaeological Sites (Pirapozinho - SP), Castelinho (President Epitácio - SP) and Taquaruçu (Sandovalina - SP), which had Jesuit interference in ceramics, proven by Faccio (1992) and Thomaz (1995), through the operative chain of production, pattern of settlement and analysis of the landscape of the sites, in order to establish the territorial relations of the Jesuit Reductions in the States of São Paulo and Paraná, through the interdisciplinarity of Geography and Archeology. To achieve the proposed objective, the following methodological procedures will be used: bibliographic survey, analysis of ceramic materials, reading of works corresponding to the investigated theme, exploratory field work and mapping.
