Abstract

This transdisciplinary project addresses the challenges and opportunities to develop innovative strategies for creating sustainable value capable of integrating economic, social and environmental perspectives in Global Value Chains (GVCs) anchored in the Amazon, in which local communities and companies are inserted. An analytical framework will be developed to study global value chains in the Amazon and analyze future developments in these value chains, including the influence of new technologies, trade policies and the repercussions of climate change and biodiversity loss. In the GVCs, we will study their socio-ecological impacts, transitions to sustainable management, circular production, engagement with sustainable products based on forest resources and led by communities, and engagement of socially conscious consumers. Analyzes are carried out of three sectoral systems in which the focal value chains are inserted in the Amazon: Cosmetics, Fishing and Beef. In these GVCs, we will analyze the strategies of companies and communities for innovation, governance and institutions, and the future challenges of innovation and post-pandemic sustainability in the face of climate challenges. In addition to engaging local stakeholders in research co-production and training researchers, the project seeks to share knowledge. He plans to improve business structure, community initiatives and public policy in the Brazilian Amazon and other similar contexts.
