Abstract

Several studies have emphasized the relevance of discussions in the field of International Relations regarding gender imbalance in decision-making roles and in representative environments of Science, Technology, and Innovation (ST&I) that intersect with the internationalization process and bilateral and multilateral dialogues. Some countries have taken this debate into the realm of foreign policy and recognized the need for greater inclusion of women in this field in order to enhance their participation in decision-making processes in international settings and make them more democratic. This includes participation in negotiation processes as well as the formulation and implementation of public policies that are increasingly complex and diverse in response to changing international dynamics. This Scientific Initiation project aims to contribute to the field of foreign policy analysis by examining the actions of countries within Latin American and European Union organizations from a gender perspective. Through a comparative study of foreign policies, the research will focus on analyzing the agenda and leadership structure in foreign policy. Initially, two case studies will be conducted: Mexico and Sweden. The scope of this research encompasses the identification of key strategic spaces and the underlying causes of gender asymmetry. Through this investigation, the goal is to make a substantive contribution to the development of policies aimed at addressing these gender imbalances, ultimately promoting greater equality in the spheres of foreign policy decision-making. The research will draw on the ongoing discussions within the framework of the FAPESP thematic project.
