Abstract

This work is the result of an incursion into the work of the playwright and stage director Carlos Alberto Soffredini (1939 - 2001). The study was based mainly on the theatrical thought of Antônio de Alcântara Machado (1901-1935) and the theoretical and methodological contribution on the modern and contemporary drama of Jean-Pierre Sarrazac (1946-). The work presents the notion of bagunça rapsódica (rhapsodic mess) to characterize Soffredin's work in what concerns its aspect of dramaturgical experimentation based on the tradition of Brazilian popular theater, especially the circus-theater. The research process involved the survey of several primary materials - reviews, photos, shows, etc. - and conducting interviews with artists who work alongside Soffredini. The informations obtained in these materials and interviews, crossed with the main bibliographical references of the area of theatrical studies, supported the reflections that weave this thesis (AU)
