Abstract

The present invention is based on the use of non-toxic, biodegradable polymeric nanoparticle carriers of nitric oxide (NO) donor molecules in plants under biotic and abiotic stresses. The invention is based on the use of nanotechnology as a tool in the preparation of NO-releasing carrier materials for agricultural applications, promoting the growth and development of plants under biotic and abiotic stresses. Thus, the present invention has a great scientific and technological impact on agriculture allowing the growth, development and acclimatization of plants under stress conditions through the administration of chitosan-based polymer nanoparticles containing S-nitrosothiols as NO-donor molecules.
