Carlos Eduardo de Almeida

He holds a Masters degree (2000) and a Ph.D. (2007) in Parasitic Biology from the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/FIOCRUZ), a CAPES 7-rated program, with a doctoral internship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, Atlanta-GA, USA, 20092010). He completed two international postdoctoral fellowships, at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS, Paris, France) and the University of Kansas (Lawrence, KS, USA, 20122013). As a Young Investigator at UNICAMP, he led several research projects, including an international cooperation agreement between UNICAMP and CNRS (20172020). He was an Associate Visiting Professor at the Institute of Biology at the Federal University of Bahia and held a CNPq Productivity Fellowship (PQ2, 20202023). Currently, he is a Researcher at the National and International Reference Laboratory in Triatomine Taxonomy (IOC/FIOCRUZ) and a Permanent Professor in the Graduate Program in Ecology and Environmental Monitoring at UFPB (CAPES 4), as well as a collaborator in the Graduate Programs in Animal Biology (CAPES 5) and in Genetics and Molecular Biology (CAPES 7) at UNICAMP. His research focuses on population genetics, phylogeny, systematics, ecological modeling, and morphometrics applied to medical entomology and molecular eco-epidemiology, with an emphasis on Chagas disease vectors. He served on the academic board of the Graduate Program in Ecology and Environmental Monitoring at UFPB (20142016) and on the Internationalization Committee of the PPGBioEvo at UFBA (20212023).
