Abstract

Musical enjoyment varies among individuals due to personal and cultural factors. While some find emotional upliftment and social connection in music, others, affected by anhedonia, struggle to derive pleasure from it. The Barcelona Music Reward Questionnaire (BMRQ) is designed to assess sensitivity to music rewards. This study validates the Brazilian Portuguese version of the BMRQ, acknowledging the linguistic importance for countries like Brazil. The process involved translating the BMRQ and administering it to 209 participants. Analytical methods, including confirmatory factor analysis and reliability checks, were used to confirm the construct's validity and reliability. The findings demonstrated that the Brazilian Portuguese version aligns closely with the original Spanish version. Now available in several languages, the BMRQ is applicable in various fields such as music emotion research, clinical settings, music therapy, educational contexts, and cross-cultural studies. Its broad applicability underscores its significance in understanding the intricate relationship between humans and music. (AU)
