Abstract
The Animal Science Institute (IZ), belonging to the São Paulo Agribusiness Technology Agency (APTA), from the São Paulo State Department of Agriculture and Supply (SAA), is responsible for developing and transferring technology and inputs for the sustainability of the systems of animal production. For the elaboration of the institutional Plan for Research Development of IZ (PDIP/IZ), the institution's council prioritized three strategic areas: Sustainable Meat Production, Sustainable Milk reduction and Integrated Agricultural Production Systems. This is in agreement with the institutional mission, with the SAA strategic programs and with public policies of the State of São Paulo, and it is compatible with the budget and human resources of IZ. In order to attend the institutional mission and to optimize the investments it was selected some of strategic areas of research to improve actions on research in progress, and to expand the actions of generation and transfer of knowledge, as well as the training professionals for the growing of the demand of the productive sector. Usually and unlike the universities, the research carried out in the State Institutes of Research of the State of São Paulo has the characteristic of being of long term, being constituted in institutional research programs. It provides complete technological packages, or genetic material of high productive and economic value, besides the results of punctual research for the advancement of knowledge. With the implementation of the PDIP/IZ, it will be possible to meet the needs of strategic programs of SAA and the Government of the State of São Paulo, focusing on the generation and transfer of technologies in the strategic areas of meat production, milk production and integrated production systems, training of human resources and interaction with the productive sector.
