Sustainable delivery system based on biocellulose/metallic complexes containing bioactive ligands

Abstract

Bioactive metal complexes with ligands have been used for some time to treat illnesses such as infections by different types of microorganisms, arthritis and cancer, which makes it interesting to conduct studies aiming at the synthesis of new complex and the testing in vitro and in vivo, for the determination and understanding of their pharmacological and molecular mechanisms of action. It has been as an example of such complexes, silver sulfadiazine used in the treatment of infections in burn injury, cisplatin, in the treatment of cancer and auranofin in the treatment of arthritis. Currently, the use of biopolymers as support and drug delivery is gaining importance in medicine. Among these polymers, bacterial cellulose holds great promise for biomedical applications due to its combination of biocompatibility and versatility. CB in different shapes, has already been applied in the treatment of various types of lesions. CB membranes were initially used as barriers and supports the regeneration of periodontal tissues, temporary artificial skin for burns and ulcers and artificial blood vessels for microsurgery. Thus, this research project aims to the synthesis, characterization and pharmacological application of new copper (II) complexes, silver (I), palladium (II), platinum (II) and gold (I) with ligands , furosemide, indapamide, chlorthalidone, hydrochlorothiazide and zileutona in the treatment of bacterial infections, as well as achieving inhibition of cell growth in vitro and the biosynthesis and modification of bacterial cellulose membranes for use as a controlled release carrier such metal complexes.
