Abstract

Childhood Education plays an important role on the healthy growth of children, chiefly when the focus is on baby nursery, for children aged 0 to 2 years. Activities developed in the nursery daily routine consist basically in care; and when all children are engaged these activities end up taking a large amount of the professionals' time. Playing is accomplished in a loose way, during the intervals of care activities, with toys that are not always adequate for the children's age. It is important to point out the adults' mediation in games, as the teacher's role is to make experiences and learning possible for the kids. The understanding that nursery professionals have about playing influences and leads the development of these activities in the nursery routine. Therefore, the objective of this work is to verify the meaning given by these professionals to the playing activities with children aged 0 to 2 years, within childhood education institutions. The data collection will be held along professionals who work in nurseries linked to the City Department of Education of Marília, by means of a semi-structured interview regarding the importance of playing and toys for the kid aged 0 to 2 years, and also the way it is all held in the nursery routine. The answers will be organized and analyzed according to their contents. We hope the results may contribute for the discussion concerning the organization of nursery activities that stimulate the global development of the child. (AU)
