Abstract

This project aims to evaluate the effect of inclusion of crude glycerin, biodiesel coming from the agroindustry, the diet of steers on pasture supplemented in the rainy season and drought in the rearing and finishing with high or low level of starch. The diets with high starch contain corn as part of the concentrate and diets with low starch, corn will be replaced by soybean hulls. The crude glycerin substitute (21% for the rainy season and 28% for the dry season, dry matter basis) for corn or soybean hulls in the diet, and in two treatments will be included a source of oil, which is soy bean. Furthermore, the control diet is composed of the same ingredients used in other treatments, except for crude glycerin. Will be evaluated nutritional parameters, ruminal and blood, changes in ruminal microbiota using molecular biotechnology, microbial efficiency, methane production, weight gain, carcass characteristics, meat quality and economic performance of diets.
