Abstract

Obesity is a multifactorial disease with epidemiological characteristics, currently recognized as a major public health problem worldwide. Bariatric surgery is being increasingly used in obesity treatment when there is no successful clinical treatment. It is already known that nutritional counseling in obese patients before and after bariatric surgery is of utmost importance and aims to identify errors and minimize eating disorders and nutritional complications or regained body weight, thus ensuring a good outcome from surgery. There is evidence indicating that the food intake reported by subjects with obesity is significantly smaller than the real. Therefore, for the nutrition field, one of the most basic problems unresolved is the implementation of an accurate assessment of the food intake in the obese patients. Although there are several food intake record tools that can be applied in clinical practice, there is still no study that shows which is the best dietary tool to be used in obese patients pre and post-bariatric surgery. Thus, this project aims to assess food intake and compare tools 24h food intake recall and food intake record of 7 days applied in preoperative and postoperative 3 months of Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass.(AU)
