Abstract Obesity and related illnesses emerge as public health problem worldwide since the mid 80's. Characterized by the accumulation of body fat, its pathophysiology cannot be solely explained by an imbalance between energy intake and consumption. There are a number of genetic, humoral, environmental and behavioral interconnected but not fully elucidated, contributing to positive energy balance and subsequent weight gain. Not much is known about the interaction between nutrient intake and physical changes of the central nervous system. Objective: to identify, through Single-Photon Emission Tomography (SPECT) after stimulation of water and lipid solution, which are the brain anatomical structures involved in lipid intake. Compare the cerebral perfusion of obese volunteers to their non-obese controls. Finally increase the knowledge about how does the acute intake of isolated macronutrients, in this case the lipid, influence the obesity pathophysiology. Methodology: a crossed case control study, where ten obese and ten non-obese volunteers will be evaluated by clinical examination, underwent to indirect calorimetry (IC), bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), laboratory tests (glucose, insulin, leptin and triglycerides) and SPECT after stimulation of water and lipid solution. The results will be compared with the existing literature in order to better clarify how a single macronutrient, in this case, the lipid, contributes to pathophysiology of obesity. (AU) | |
