Abstract

The world aquaculture development and the increasing demand for high quality fish products have been requiring an intensification and specialization of the aquaculture systems and production practices. The animal welfare is an important factor to be succeed in this activity and can provide a better productivity in a optimized time. The current velocity directly affects the fish metabolism and according to species its intensity can accelerate the growth, assist in homogeneity of the batch and quality of the end product, but when inappropriate may cause fat accumulation, induce stress and increase mortality of stocks. Thus the aim of this work is to determine the VCors that provide the best results in body growth, social behavior, hematology, body composition and muscle fibers pacu and dourado in two sequential experiments. The experiments will be conducted in similarity procedures and each work will evaluate individually six current velocities (0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 body length per second - L s-1) in four replications in a completely randomized design.
