Brazilian ginseng roots (Pfaffia glomerata) are commercialized as substitute to ginseng (Panax) due its similar morpholy and terapeutic effects. The Brazilian ginseng roots shows considerable saponins content, which can be used as natural surfactant. Moreover, the residues from extraction process has high polissacharides content, that can be used to produce several molecules, among them, second generation ethanol. Considering the potential of this plant and, the new trends on development of green technologies to production of different products from the same plant, the integral use of Brazilian ginseng with pressurized fluids technology becomes very interisting. The objetive of this project is develop an intensificated method that include sequential extractions to obtain distinct products of high value in each step and hydrolysis of residue to production of fermetable sugars. This process must be economically feasible. To evaluate the economic viability of the process, will be used the commercial software SuperPro Designer, that allows to simulate process in industrial scale and estime the costs of production, besides predict the possible increase on yield and productivity of process due ultrasound utilization. Furthermore, will be evaluated the possibility of coupling purification process, as supercritical anti-solvent extraction, to obtain extracts with high quality using fewer steps than conventional processes.
