Abstract

Introduction: It is known that the Mucociliary Transport (MCT) is the most important defense mechanism of the respiratory system and continuous exposure to cigarette smoke makes this facility disabled. It is known that aerobic exercise in healthy subjects promotes better mucociliary function. However, the behavior of this defense mechanism in smokers after exercise, is not yet well understood in the literature, as well as behavior of modulation cardiac autonomic these individuals. Objectives: To evaluate and compare the acute response of mucociliary transport and modulationcardiac autonomic in smokers and nonsmokers submitted a stimulus submaximal and maximal ofaerobic exercise, as well as investigate possible correlations between these variables. Methods: Individuals smokers and nonsmokers with normal lung function verified by spirometry will be evaluated by the mucociliary transport of Saccharin Transit Time (STT) in two periods: before and after the stimulus submaximal of aerobic exercise (six-minute walk test - 6MWT) and before and after the stimulus of aerobic exercise (exhaustive progressive treadmill test - EPTT). This will be held on different days in both groups. Statistical analysis: Will the statistical program Graphpad Instat®. The normality of the data will be assessed by the Shapiro-Wilk test, and the description of the results will be held as mean ± standard deviation or as median (interquartile range 25-75), depending on the normality of the data. For intergroup analysis will use the unpaired T test or Mann-Whitney test depending on the normality of the data, and between times (before and after stimulation) is used the paired T test. The correlations will be analyzed by Pearson or Spearman coefficients, depending also on the normality of the data. The level of significance is p<0.05. (AU)
