Abstract

Due to its cardiovascular, metabolic and autonomic benefit, many researchers have suggested the Aerobic Exercise Training (AT) as an important non-pharmacological tool in the management of Myocardial Infarction (MI). Despite Resistance Training (RT) is considered an adjuvant in cardiac rehabilitation programs, evidence about its benefits are still scarce. On the other hand, the administration of pyridostigmine bromide (PYR), an inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase, has shown positive effects on autonomic function in healthy subjects and in coronary patients (in response to exercise). However, associations between these strategies, AT, RT and PYR on the treatment of cardiac, autonomic and functional changes triggered by IM have been understudied and deserve attention. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of AT or RT, associated or not with PYR treatment, on ventricular, hemodynamic and autonomic responses to MI in rats. MI animals will be subjected to 3 months of AT and RT alone or combined with PYR treatment. At the end of the protocols, ventricular, hemodynamic and autonomic evaluations will be conducted. Results will be presented as mean ± standard error of the mean, and statistical ANOVA tests will be properly applied. Values of P<0.05 will be considered significant. (AU)
