Abstract

This research intends to study and analyze the existing railway set in the city of Mairinque, originally founded as a village in 1890 to serve the interests of the Estrada de Ferro Sorocabana Company. Among the buildings that still prevail since the original village are houses, workshops, warehouse, trees forest garden and station. The Mairinque station was inscribled within the Register of Historic Places by CONDEPHAAT (Defense Council of Historical, Archaeological , Artistic and Touristic Heritage .and IPHAN (Institute of the Historical and Artistic Heritage) due to its historical and architectural importance, even thought there are remnants of the railway still exist in the city, without receiving similar legal protection. Due to the different actions of preservation, use and restauration that help to keep their relative integrity until the present day. Therefore, our main goal is to understand how the assets relate to each other in a way that defines the relationship between the city and the original railway set, through the identification and analysis of: remaining rail assets; the urban area occupied by this set; the interventionist actions; the current relationship between the railway assets, as well as the integration of results to a macro project. In order to establish preservation guidelines appropriate to the reality of that heritage. In order to archive such guidelines the chosen work methodology includes inventorying and mapping of real estate assets, documents and literature research, interviews with the linked social sector and identification of the relations existing between the city and the railway set, considering that the preservation of the original railway areas should be carried out according the appropriate preservation guidelines, which can change the current neglected situation in which the areas that suffered from the decline of the railway are found, aggregate value to regions that still have traces of railway activity and modify relations existing between the city and the railway set.
