Abstract

Despite of the wide folk use of copaiba oil resin by the Brazilians since XIX century and several developed studies corroborating many of its ethnopharmacological uses, as well as its production being around 800 tons per year, there is a great need to fully determine the following parameters: phytochemical, pharmacological, toxicological and clinical studies, aiming to guarantee safety, efficacy and quality, which are mandatory for developing new phytomedicines. In this sense, the goal of this proposal is to undertake the chemical validation of the oleoresin of Copaifera multijuga, Copaifera pubiflora and Copaifera trapezifolia, to evaluate the antitumor activity (in vitro) of the major secondary metabolites isolated from this natural sources, as well as the development and validation of a HPLC-DAD analytical method to the main oleoresins commercialized in Brazil: C. multijuga, C. duckei, C. reticulate, C. pubiflora and C. paupera.
