Abstract

Today the contemporary society has an increasing amount of information that shape the knowledge of each individual. Among the diversity of issues that permeate life, one of the main challenges of communication is a concern to bring to everyone a critical understanding of scientific issues. The scientific knowledge is almost always interesting and challenging, but also difficult to access and understand, often being limited to the knowledge of scientists in laboratories, universities and research institutes. These places develop daily work affecting the whole world and, even so, most people are unaware about what is being developed and, consequently, their impact on society. Therefore, it is essential to highlight the role of science journalism as a way for science to approach any individual, beyond the scientist's figure. The proposed work is intended to be a communication mediator between science and society, through scientific dissemination of the work done in the Instituto Oceanográfico of the Universidade de São Paulo (IOUSP), offering to the population, more and better knowledge of the sea sciences, in addition to the admiration of its development and, consequently, increasing the public's interest in know and preserve the marine biome. For this, it will be used the science communication with appropriate use of the communication means, decoding academic texts published by IOUSP in texts for the general public, with the production of journalistic texts for several media, addressing the developed scientific research at the institute. Thus, this work aims to bridge the gap between researchers, science and citizens, developing a qualified scientific communication and working for the democratization of the knowledge.
