Abstract

Obesity is increasingly frequent pathology in cats. Their occurrence culminates in welfare reduction, in addition to being associated with comorbidities and decreased lifespan. Thus, this study will aim to assess the morphometric measurements, kidney and liver laboratory and ultrasound changes, comorbidities and nutritional profile of obese cats and normal body condition cats, evaluated in the routine of Small Animal Internal Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science School- UNESP, Botucatu, SP. It will be studied 20 obese cats and 20 normal body condition score (BCS) cats, by evaluating: a physical examination; anthropometric measurements for undergraduate body score (body weight, body mass index (BMI) and BCS); laboratory parameters like lipid profile (total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein - LDL, high density lipoproteins - HDL and triglycerides), renal function (serum urea and creatinine, urinalysis and urinary protein/creatinin ratio) and liver profile (serum glucose, aspartate aminotransferase- AST, gamma glutamyl transpeptidase-GGT,and alcaline phosphatase- ALP); and renal and hepatic abdominal ultrasonography, calculating the renal resistance index in Doppler mode. The underlying disease (the reason for seeking medical care), obesity occurrence time and nutritional assessment be determined by the cat owner. Will be held the comparison of obtained data between the two groups and correlation of comorbidities with age and body condition score. (AU)
