Abstract

Journalism as an institution tends to articulate itself into a social field that is refractory to public criticism, but media field current technological configuration and the conceptual and practical requirements of public communication in contemporary democracies question the walls built between journalism and publics. Journalism faces the challenge to open itself without losing it legitimacy au autonomy, this process can occur with the adoption of accountability and inputs innovations that establish relationship to its publics, with different arrangements and complexity. This research aims to investigates the relationship established between TV station as public broadcasting concessions and their publics, comparing the practices adopted in Brazil and in England, a country recognized globally for innovative governance formats. We understand that these relationships are differentiated by dimensions of information provision, feedback, participation, engagement, reuse and professionalization. Through the methodology of content analysis and open, axial and selective coding of documents, interviews and programming content, we will identify practices, channels, procedures and devices adopted by broadcasters. We will analyze how these dimensions can impact in strategies of creation and maintenance of social responsibility values, innovation and credibility. We will contribute producing guidelines to public relationship instruments suitable to a TV station with public broadcasting concession, increasingly necessary in the context characterized by the search for innovative instruments capable of reversing the current credibility deficit faced by journalism and the growing competitiveness in the new media scene.
