Abstract

São Paulo state takes over the ethanol production technology and, associated with the sugarcane cultivation, is the main peanut producer. Besides ethanol is a renewable fuel, it can be used in several processes, as extraction and refining of vegetable oils, and also for biodiesel production. Although ethanol is predominantly produced in Brazil from renewable sources, considering the entire supply chain, the raw material (sugarcane) and product (ethanol) are transported by trucks mainly supplied by diesel, which expressively decreases the ethanol classification as a sustainable fuel. In this context, the possibility of associate the peanut cultivation with ethanol production is valid. Ethanol can be used both to extract the peanut oil and to produce ethanolic biodiesel, which can be used to supply the trucks fleet that transports sugarcane and ethanol. In this integrated system (peanut oil extraction + ethanol production + biodiesel production), the environment impact related to the ethanol production can be attenuated, increasing its sustainable concept.
