Abstract

The scientific initiation research outlined in this project aims to provide, for the first time in Portuguese language, a complete translation of the fifty-two epigrams and fragments credited to Asclepiades of Samos, a Hellenistic poet active at the end of the fourth century to the middle of the first half of the third century B.C. In addition to the translation an introduction regarding the genre epigram, the poet and his poetry is also proposed. It is sought to define the importance of Asclepiades in the Greek epigrammatic tradition, showing how he has become one of its main exponents, having conveyed values estimated among the Hellenistic poets, especially those related to innovation and creativity. In considering the epigram in its specificity, the work aims to contribute to the discussion of poetic genres in antiquity and its transformations over time.
