Abstract

The main aim of this project is to characterize the influence of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) on the phase behavior of Pluronic F127 hydrogels by Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). SANS experiments will be performed at the ISIS facility, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK. DSC thermograms will be obtained in a Q10 calorimeter (TA Instruments) at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, King's College, London UK. The microphases of these hydrogels will be further correlated with the kinetics of photochemical nitric oxide (NO) release from S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) incorporated into these hydrogels in Brazil. The potential biomedical applications of the F127/PVA/GSNO for the topical delivery of NO will be evaluated. (AU)
