Abstract

The focus of this research is the interaction between aspects of the ergonomics of the architectural project, including room sizing, positioning, sizing and window/window control systems and shading structures, and the search for thermal comfort in residential architecture icons Brazilian Modernista, produced in the city of São Paulo, between the 1930s and 1960s, internationally recognized for its emphasis on the principles of climatic contextualization of architecture for the environmental comfort of the occupants. The case study is the two blocks of the Louveira complex (1946), in the neighborhood of Higienópolis, designed by the architect Vilanova Artigas. The main objective is the characterization of these interactions, highlighting the qualities of the architectural design of the residential building designed for the environmental comfort of the users, with emphasis on the thermal conditions throughout the day and the year. In this context, other objectives are the quantitative verification of the thermal performance of the case study and the identification of the role of the several aspects of the architectural design mentioned above in the thermal response of the building, as well as the qualitative evaluation of the performance of the internal spaces, in which to the accomplishment of the tasks of a residential building and the respective expectations of the users, more than 70 years after its construction. With regard to the method, the task analysis will be done initially for the internal environments of the unit-type of the case study building and the detailed survey of the components of the openings and shading elements. In the sequence, the thermal comfort conditions will be verified, for which a simulation deductive method will be adopted based on analytical procedures. Finally, it will be done the analysis of the interactions and the consequent results of aspects of the ergonomics of the architectural project by the users, in the search for thermal comfort.
