Abstract

The demand for technologies to convert biomass and reusing waste has put pressure on the industrial productive sector to increasingly invest in innovations aimed at the generation of new products with high-energy use. In this context, subcritical water technology is recognized as a clean and sustainable process for obtaining bioactive compounds and sugars from by-products generated in the processing of vegetable sources. Therefore, the development of processes that further enhance the technological characteristics of solid waste has been highlighted. The objective of this project is to use an integrated system of extraction followed by hydrolysis in subcritical water and purification of solid residues from the wine processing industry, grape bagasse (seeds and peels), aiming the production of technologies with greater added value. The tests with extraction in subcritical water from the grape bagasse will be evaluated for the production of phenolic and bioactive compounds and evaluation of the antioxidant power. The hydrolysis tests with subcritical water will be evaluated for the production of xylose, arabinose, fructose and inhibitory compounds (furfural and HMF). The bio-adsorbents obtained after the hydrolysis step will be evaluated as an adsorbent material, as well as its adsorptive capacity against different types of bio-adsorbents, biochar and commercial adsorbents. The adsorption tests will be carried out in batch, off-line and in-line column systems, for the purification of inhibition compounds formed during the hydrolysis step. All the processes used in obtaining the co-products will be evaluated technically and economically, the integration of technologies may contribute to the decarbonization of the energy matrix, supporting the transition to a circular economy, based on the reduction, reuse and recovery of energy.
