Abstract

Previous studies in patients hospitalized for COVID-19 showed that these patients have impaired mobility, however, to date, few data have been released regarding the characteristics of physical mobility of these patients who were hospitalized either in wards or ICUs, as well as on the possible relationship with clinical outcomes. Objective: to investigate the clinical characteristics and health outcomes in patients with different in-hospital mobility profiles at COVID-19, as well as to monitor mobility throughout the hospital stay. Methods: retrospective observational study with characteristics involving patients admitted to a hospital unit affected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The patients will be divided into two groups, the GF+ group (n=50) the most functional, that is, composed of patients with the ability to walk (score IV on the scale), while the GF- group (n=50) the least functional, those who only remained at the bedside (score dIII on the scale). The classification will be done according to the protocol by Morris et al 2008 (figure 1) following the evolution of health professionals through the electronic medical record from admission to hospital discharge. In addition, groups will be compared for clinical characteristics and health outcomes using the unpaired Student's t-test or Mann Whitney test as appropriate and whether mobility is related to health outcomes. Health outcomes will be considered: length of hospital stay in the ICU or ward (in number of days), need for mechanical ventilation (in days), need for prone position, if extubation failed (considering a time d48hrs after extubation), need for tracheostomy, occurrence of cardiovascular events, septic shock, renal failure, cardiorespiratory arrest and in-hospital death. Expected results: It is expected to find evidence on the level of mobility and its possible association with health outcomes of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 with the hypothesis that greater mobility impairment reflects worse health outcomes. This knowledge can serve as a basis for new rehabilitation strategies for patients during hospitalization.(AU)
