Abstract

This proposal includes an internship research project abroad. It is based on a doctoral research project about the preservation of railway heritage in small cities, with the Rio Grande Line, of the "Companhia Mogiana de Estradas de Ferro" (Mogiana Railway Company), as the object of study. Based on the results obtained up to this stage, some questions related to the preservation of railway buildings and their uses (or lack thereof), especially in relation to small cities and their demands (generally different from those of larger cities), have demonstrated the need to expand the references of instruments and actions aimed at this context. Therefore, the experiences of refunctionalization in Portugal (such as the Revive Natureza Program, or the Ecopistas system), since they include railway assets located in small cities, are presented as potential guidelines for the case study.
