Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Biociências (IB)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Bachelor and Licenciated in Biological Sciences by the Institute of Biosciences USP, with Doctorate in Biochemistry by the Institute of Chemistry USP. Currently is a Full Professor of the Department of Physiology at IBUSP. Developed research projects with organisms of the family Trypanosomatidae, mainly Leishmania and Trypanosoma. Described DNA probes for identifying these organisms using various molecular targets and applying techniques such as hybridization and PCR. In basic molecular biology, studied the organization of RNA polymerase I promoters and the regulation of the expression of ribosomal RNA genes. Also studied the metabolism of Leishmania to understand the relation of the parasite with the host cell, with the objective of describing chemotherapeutic targets. Worked in the area of higher education, having acted in the coordination of the Molecular Sciences Course, (PRG-USP), a course dedicated to training scientists (2003 to 2008). Is a member of the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo. A former member of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Society of Protozoology (SBPz) and President of the Society (2020-2021). Former member of the Board of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC) and was a member of the Board of Directors of SBPC (2017-2019/2019-2021). Also represented the SBPC at the National Animal Experimentation Control Council (CONCEA). Received the Samuel Pessoa Award from SBPz in 2022. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
