Abstract

The group "O ensino da fé cristã na Península Ibérica (sécs. XIV, XV e XVI)" ("The teaching of the Christian faith in the Iberian Peninsula (14th and 15th centuries)") emerged from the need to create a research line at the São Paulo Estate structured around a history of the making of belief and the ways of faith possible in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, a period that marks the strengthening of Iberian dioceses. By bringing together researchers at different levels of training - including experienced Ph.D.s in work on the period in question - the present group aims to invest in two well-defined targets: on the one hand, to catalog the words that give meaning to the moralizing axes of the Iberian pastoral action; on the other, to scrutinize the role of books intended to disseminate the precepts of faith. In addition, the individual and collective researches will also emphasize how Christians should memorize the words conveyed by confessional treatises e pastoral booklets, two particular genres that will constitute the documental corpus of the laboratory. As its main products, the group will dedicate itself to create an anthology of booklets and an online database in which pastoral books will be cataloged. In serializing the pastoral production of Portugal and Castile, one of the main goals of the group is therefore to stimulate from the work of editing sources to the studies of ways of belief, that is, the modes of the teaching and the learning of the elemental basis of Christian morals.
