Abstract
The objective includes the development of a cohort of individuals with recent infection from HIV-1, based on which we will conduct virological, immunological, clinical and epidemiological studies. The cohort will serve as a base for three scientific studies motivated on the basis of well defined scientific hypotheses. The study involving people with recent HIV infection will offer a unique and important analysis of the tendencies in the epidemic, of the natural history of the infection from HIV under special circumstances (universal anti-retroviral treatment) and will prospectively explore important questions which can arise in locations where the therapeutic interventions have increased. We will conduct clinical/laboratorial studies related to (i) acquisition of primary resistance to the anti-retrovirals and progression of the disease; (ii) immunological response during the recent infection from HIV and (iii) the genetic diversity of the viral population as factor related to the progression of the disease. The epidemiological analysis will include behavioral studies and correlations with co-infections. (AU)
