Abstract

Food consumption and nutritional needs, as well as knowledge of the nutritional status of the elderly are important points to be studied. Fats are essential components of the diet, because in addition to providing greater amount of energy compared to carbohydrates and protein, contains essential fatty acids. However, especially saturated fats, can be detrimental to health when consumed in excess contributing to many chronic diseases. For this reason, the present study aims to evaluate qualitatively and quantitatively the food intake of fat in the elderly, residents in the city of Campinas - SP, and factors associated with sociodemographic, behavioral and morbidity. This project will use the database ISA-Camp, which had sample selected by probabilistic sampling procedures, by conglomerate and in two stages: census tracts and households. Information was collected through a questionnaire applied by trained interviewers and answered by randomly selected elderly. Since the information on food consumption were obtained through a 24-hour recall. For the statistical analysis of the study variables frequency distributions are estimated on, mean and standard errors for continuous variables and for categorical variables, proportions will be estimated. The differences between groups will be estimated using the test of equality between averages Wald and the x2 test with Rao-Scott correction, which take into consideration sample weights for estimates with population weights. The critical level is used p <0.05 and analyzes use the Stata software.
