Abstract

The prime objective of this project is the production of revolutionary scientific results in Physics and Astrophysics through the participation of the proponents in the construction, data analysis and interpretation of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTA). Technological innovation and social impact are guaranteed results of this proposal given the participation of the industry of the State of São Paulo in the construction of telescopes and considering the implementation of a science communication and engagement program. The abundant formation of human resources at a high international level is also an uncontroversial outcome given the attractive and challenging environment in which this project is inserted. CTA is arguably the most important experiment in astroparticle Physics to operate in the next three decades. Based on a proven technique, CTA will produce a significant expansion of the frontiers of knowledge by measuring with unprecedented sensitivity, accuracy and depth. Composed of hundreds of telescopes installed at two sites, CTA will be the first observatory to detect cosmic particles with energy between 20 GeV and 300 TeV. Currently under construction, the CTA will achieve in five years, ten times more sensitivity and precision than the experiments currently in operation. Over the past ten years, the proponents have been developing Astrophysics models, data analysis techniques, simulations, outreach and instrumentation related to CTA Physics and Astrophysics. These efforts have been supported by FAPESP through a thematic project (2015/15897-1), two regular projects (2012/22540-4 and 2010/19514-6) and several postgraduate and post-doctoral fellowships. The success of the previous projects culminated in the work proposal presented here. We request support from FAPESP to guarantee the return of the investment made. In the next five years, we propose to lead the scientific results to be achieved with data from the CTA Observatory on the following topics: dark matter, Lorentz invariance violation and acceleration mechanisms of the main types of high-energy cosmic particles sources. The expected progress on these issues with CTA data has the potential to produce paradigm shifts in exact Science and this project aims to ensure our involvement. (AU)
