Abstract
For the past 25 years, our group has been studying the physiopathological mechanisms involved in the inflammatory process. In order to continue doing so, in this project we seek to do translational research regarding inflammatory diseases, mainly rheumatoid arthritis, chronic pain and sepsis. All three topics will be investigated in an integrated stand: 1) mechanisms involved in recognizing the triggering agents, focusing in pattern recognition receptors (TLRs and NLRs), their endogenous ligands and the activation of recognition cells (dendritic cells, glial cell, mastocytes, synoviocytes); 2) effector mechanisms, especially regarding cytokines and chemokines roles and their receptors, and effector cells (neutrophils, lymphocytes and macrophages); intracellular signaling, including intracellular receptors (AhR, PPARgama, LXR) and transcription factors (NFkB, AP-1, CREB); and finally 4) immune response modulators, focusing in adenosine, Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase, eicosanoids and co-stimulatory molecule CD28. Developing this project will allow the identification of new common biological target to most of the three aforementioned topics, leading to the development of new biological markers and treatment schemes for those diseases.
