Immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) is a rare systemic idiopathic inflammatory myopathy associated with high functional disability. It is characterized by an acute/subacute condition of skeletal muscle weakness with elevated serum level of muscle enzymes. It tends to be refractory to conventional drug treatment (glucocorticoid and/or immunosuppressive drugs) and presents frequent relapsing. These manifestations can contribute to both a reduction in strength and functional capacity, and an impairment of aerobic capacity. Differently from other idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (dermatomyositis, polymyositis and inclusion body myositis), to date there are no studies evaluating the effect of physical training on aerobic capacity, strength and muscular function of patients with IMNM. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to assess the physical training impact in patients with IMNM. As control groups, these patients will be compared to patients with polymyositis and also to a healthy group (gender- and age-matched). (AU)
