Antonio J. A. Meirelles holds a degree in Food Engineering from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp, 1980), a master's degree in Food Engineering from Unicamp (1984), a doctorate in Thermal Process Engineering - Technische Hochschule Merseburg (currently part of Martin Luther University, Germany, 1987) and a doctorate in Economic Science from Unicamp (1997). He has been a professor at Unicamp since 1987, a tenured professor since 1995 and a full professor since 2007.He has experience in the area of #8203;#8203;Food Science and Technology and in the production of biofuels and bioproducts, mainly working on the following topics: vapor-liquid, liquid-liquid and solid-liquid phase equilibrium of fatty systems and aqueous solutions, distillation, liquid-liquid extraction, adsorption, refining of vegetable oils, purification of biomolecules, production of hydrated and anhydrous bioethanol and biodiesel.He won 1st Place in the 1989 Young Scientist Award based on his doctoral thesis on the dehydration of ethanol using ethylene glycol as a dehydrating agent. This technology was industrialized in the late 1990s and during the 2000s and early 2010s accounted for approximately 30 of the national production of anhydrous alcohol. The technology represented one of the innovations in ethanol production implemented in the Brazilian sugar-alcohol sector.His activities in economics focused on monetary theory and the development of Keynesian-inspired macroeconomic models, with a dozen published works.He has published nearly 300 articles in internationally circulated journals, with an H-index between 44 and 47, depending on the bibliographic database. He has supervised 62 and co-supervised 20 master's dissertations and doctoral theses, overseen 15 postdoctoral projects, and developed 12 patents/patent applications. In addition to the 1989 Young Scientist Award, he also won 1st Place in the 2016 Jabuti Prize (Brazilian Book Chamber) in the Engineering, Technology, and Informatics category. He has developed joint research activities with professors from Germany, Portugal, France, Belgium, Denmark, and the United States, and with Brazilian researchers from UFPA, UFRN, USP, UNESP, EMBRAPA, UENF, and UFMT. Antonio J. A. Meirelles is a researcher with a CNPq productivity grant (level 1A).He was the Coordinator of Graduate Studies of the Faculty of Food Engineering (FEA/Unicamp) from October 2011 to October 2014, Director of FEA/Unicamp from October 2014 to October 2018, and Rector of Unicamp from April 2021 to April 2025. He was a member of CONIC (Innovation and Competitiveness Council) of FIESP (Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo).
