Abstract
An innovative research program will be established aiming at studying protein post-translational modifications (PTMs), such as phosphorylation, glycosylation and oxidation modulation in pathological conditions such as cancer metastasis and parasite infection diagnosis. The research will be articulated on three lines: 1) Optimize and develop mass spectrometry-based enrichment/analysis methods for PTMs studies in different biological systems; 2) Develop a strategy for the recovery and analysis of secreted modified proteins and peptides originating from interstitial fluid from dissected prostate cancers and surrounding healthy tissues; 3) Establish a mass spectrometry-based method to detect biomarkers of parasite infection in biofluids in order to develop a point-of-care diagnostic platform capable of detecting these diseases at an early stage.
