Abstract

The Applied Research Center for in Artificial Intelligence, IARA, is formed by a multidisciplinary team, with national experts of internationally recognized for their competence in artificial intelligence, internet of things telecommunications and smart cities. The center, hosted in São Carlos, in the state of São Paulo, will work in network with researchers from all Brazilian regions, organized in nodes. Thus, a differential of this center proposal is that, together with the center based in São Carlos, a network of nodes, or sub-headquarters, located in Scientific, Technological and Innovation Institutions from all regions of the country will be formed. The center has researchers from several Scientific, Technological and Innovation Institutions from the state of São Paulo, including all public universities. The center aims to cover five aspects of smart cities: cybersecurity, education, infrastructure, environment and health. In the aspect related to infrastructure, the subthemes of energy, communication and mobility are of particular interest. Due to its applied character, an agreement was reached with some cities in the country and a group of companies whose activities encompass the mentioned themes is also participating of the center. The transfer of technology, education and the dissemination of knowledge for the correct, fair, transparent and efficient use of Artificial Intelligence for the promotion of smart cities in Brazil and abroad will be emphasized in the center.
